Free correlative roadmap for Surge Protector

Everytime I used the wall switch the power filter tripped. This is a brand new custom home about a year old. I use several other line conditioners from APC and other makers and have no problems with any of them. APC claims that it trips due to voltage irregularites but the one I used to replace it doesn’t act the same way????
My computer has a power surge protector. When a bad storm comes, Should i turn my computer off?
I was wondering, I have a power surge protector Surge Protector with a battery backup hooked up to my computer.I still shut the computer down though during bad storms, But i was wondering if this mad a difference at all now that i have a protector.Should i shut my computer down during bad lightining storms even with a power surge protector?
