Fairly easy to follow and great instructors. This makes learning the guitar “cool” by learning in your own home and a heck of a lot cheaper too than taking lessons!

I’ve been trying to learn on and off for a few months now and I would say this was a great place to begin looking. This DVD was very helpful and it goes along with a booklet you receive which makes tremendously easy to follow. You learn a lot of basic aspects of guitar playing (rhythm, strumming, finger picking etc.) You can certainly play a few songs by the end of this DVD.
You should try it at your own pace and refer back to the DVD for guidance. I’d recommend it!

There are lots of self-teaching DVD’s out there, but this one is really great and easy to follow along.

I bought the “Learn to Play Acoustic Beginner” by House of Blues along with the Guitar World Acoustic Rock DVD; do yourself and your wallet a favor and just get the former. In fact, it may be the best one I have. There is a small book showing you the tabs, strumming patterns, and how to follow along. It also includes links to download a tuner, metronome, and background tracks to practice along to. If you have an acoustic and are teaching yourself, this is the one to get for chords.
The instructor is easy to follow, unlike others where you end up trying to play catch-up. A note for beginners, when you are shown the chords, sit down and practice for 10-15 minutes before trying to play along. That’s the way this is intended to work. And if you have a steel string acoustic guitar, you will need to practice a couple of weeks (two to four) before your fingers can handle the pain of learning acoustic.

This DVD is advertised as a Region 1 DVD, (USA & Canada format). It is not. Couldn’t play it on my DVD player with surround sound. My computers wanted me to change my DVD player software format to something else (SE Asia, Australia or China), not sure which. Would have returned the disk but fortunately have a portable player that I use on airplanes, and it plays all formats.

Not sure about the previous reviewer. This DVD is certainly a Region 1 (plays in US & Canada). It plays in my home Sony system, my portable player, in my truck player and in my Dell PC.
As for the content, this DVD teaches everything a beginner would want to know and more. The parts of a guitar, playing 1 string at a time and building up to all 6 strings, showing notes and building chords and in the end teaches 5 songs. Perfect for a beginner guitarist!

Although I am at best a novice electric guitar player, I am finding (still making my way through it) this instructional DVD very exceptional. Several sections take more work and much repeating, but very possible with practice. With luck, I will have completed the disc and will be feeling much more comfortable with most of the songs that Jamie Humphries covers. Highly recommend for anyone that wants to make some effort in learning the songs contained on this DVD and plays guitar at a novice or higher level.

As an intermediate guitar player, I’ve always found the music books and the on-line video lessons didn’t have that personal and hand’s on touch that most of us need. With the Learn to Play video, I was able to watch. learn and play at my own speed. The lessons are clear, thorough and very helpful. thanks to the backing tracks included I can jam along and imagine the giant pig flying over my head at a Pink Floyd concert!

I bought this after i bought the Nate Lapointe “Dark side of the moon”. I like Pink Floyd and I wanted to learn some of the stuff on the guitar. I give Nate’s Dvd a 4 also neither came with tabs and neither came with a book. The teaching styles of both guys are pretty good with a slight nod to Nate. He goes slower and it is alot easier for a beginner to keep up with. Be prepared to use the “rewind” button on your dvd player alot. But once you get the songs down these are great dvd’s. Both of them. All i can say is I want more floyd from either one or both of these guys.
