Ok guys, ill make this short and sweet.
Im a singer song writer, been using Magix Music studio 12, then decided to buy Pro Tools.

“PROS for the Fast Track USB interface”
Low latency – Clean clear voices

    High build quality

    Small/Compact

    Portable

“CONS for the Fast Track USB interface”
Cant use condenser microphone. **I was able to set up a condenser mic to this USB fast track model. But i had to buy a phantom power supply that cost me an additional 30 BUCKS! but it works fine.**

Only records in MONO. not capable of recording in Stereo. Which is my biggest turn off. NO one uses Mono recording. Why would they even make it MONO? so dumb.

As for the actuall software Pro Tools M-Powered Essentials
    Pros
    Tons of loops and Samples
    Vitrual instruments and
    Awesome Recording Interface.

    Cons
Takes alot of space on ur computer so have alot of memory.
Does NOT, I repeat DOES NOT give you access to all functions of the Pro Tools program. They kepp wanting you to upgrade to the full version.

    OVERALL Tips

    Good for intery level stuff.
I personally just sold this and bought the MBox 2 which is by far a way better investment but a little expensive.
Have acomputer with alot of RAM and Memory.
If you want to use a condenser mic, buy a phantom power supply for like 19 -30bucks then hook it up accordingly.

Hope this helps you guys out!

    CB.

Digidesign has gotten my last dollar. I highly suggest you get another, better, product. That is, unless you enjoy reinstall, after reinstall, after support email, after support email. Forget about your musical life. The computer and Digidesign have you by the b_lls, now!

Save your sanity: Don’t buy this Digidesign product!

  3. Lawrence Says:

So admittedly I should have done more research before making this purchase. I found Windows 7 64-bit drivers on M-Audio’s website, so I assumed (and we know what that does, right?!) that they were good drivers. Wrong! Spent a couple days troubleshooting and reading forums before I just decided that the 64-bit drivers were not ready for primetime. Lots of popping, feedback, and latency, which should not have been happening on my quad core system w/4 gigs of RAM.

Fortunately I’m PC savvy and had an extra WinXP license, so I set up my system to dual-boot Win 7 64-bit and Win XP 32-bit. Installed ProTools and the interface on the XP partition, and Voila! Perfection! A little inconvenient to have to reboot when I want to record, but I don’t really multitask while recording anyway, so no big deal.

So now I’m very pleased with the product. My only “criticism”, if you can call it that, is that the software really is pro quality, so the learning curve is substantial for a recording n00b like me, but I’m figuring it out.

I almost sprung for the MK11 version with the phantom power, but for my needs I figured I could get by without any fancy condenser mics for a while, so I save some cash and got the Fast Track USB.

    Hope this helps!

My Grandson said this was a fantastic piece of equipment for where he currently is in his music career.

  5. Flan Says:

A handy little package that comes together in clever ways to make the life of travelling mic work easier. Recommend sensible placement of the booth close to a sound absorbing surface to reduce bounce of sound through the back. Otherwise a neat solution at home in even some studio setings to improve the neutrality of the mics. working environment.

  6. Bechum Says:

    This works great!!
    What a brilliant idea.
I only wish it was a little bigger so I could have a place for a scrip holder.

  7. Eskew Says:

i bought this to record vocals with
but i ended up using the mic to record my amp when i couldnt find my sm57 and it sounds awesome!!!

it sounds better than lining out!
and its nice and shiny, its pretty, and priced extremely well
    way to go CAD
im super pleased with this mic

i also have the drum mic set
and this company is comin up tough!

    get it!!!!!

I have used this for a few months now here’s what I think.
    Great Item for the price.
Can be a pain in the @$$ to install.
I have it running on XP, Vista and Windows 7 works fine on all.
Everything on [...] was recorded using this equipment so check it out yourself.
Make sure you have a decent computer though because the usb connection can cause latency and buffering issues.
What else….oh it be nice if there was a POWER button on the thing, you have to unplug it when you are done using it.
Overall cool, but will be upgrading.
Oh one other thought its great for transfering beats from an MPC to the computer through the digital coax..that feature I love.

  9. Horne Says:

Easy to set up on the Mac. Works flawlessly and as expected.
Note: This item must be connected to a power outlet- there simply is NOT enough power in your USB socket on your Mac (or PC)

  10. Goldsworthy Says:

it works fine for the first few months then it kills your computer. This murdered my macbook pro. i cant even hardly type on this mac becuase it distorted the button. it disconnects everytime i record. not worth the money at all.

  11. Horton Says:

Having read all the reviews before purchasing this item, I was skeptical and decided to wait at least a year before reviewing. I can now say that I’ve never had a single problem with this unit, ever. It records crystal clear and works great as a MIDI interface as well.
Being USB 1.1, I was skeptical about performance but it turns out there was no reason for it. This unit is great and I’d buy it again and again. I use this for all of my PCs audio and never have any of the issues that other people talk about.
As it turns out, it’s probably a good idea to understand computers a bit before writing a bad review for this product, because if you don’t disable your onboard sound, then you may well experience disconnect problems, but anyone with any computer knowledge at all should know that. With that in mind, I will note that I’ve not actually disabled my internal sound card and have still never had a single issue with disconnects. The guy who said his PC gave him the BSOD and his computer “was never the same again” was obviously looking for anything to blame because his computer crapped out on him.

  12. Hodges Says:

the mic is good for recording studio quality music only problem with mine was after i plugged it in and i used it. than tryed to plug it back in the computer wouldent find the device no matter what i tryed

  13. Grant Says:

This microphone is as described, and I highly recommend it for the home-studio enthusiast. It was completely “plug & play” on my XP laptop and I was recording immediately with no hang-ups or need for extra hardware drivers. The mic picks up high and low frequencies nicely, but I recommend buying a windscreen to cut down on “P- pops.” The carrying case is durable and the foam inlay protects all the components in seperate compartments. A well-designed package, overall.MXL Studio 1 USB Microphone with Headohone Jack, Desktop Stand, USB Cable, and Carrying Case

  14. Farr Says:

This microphone is very easy to use (just plug and go!). Some of the extras that come with it are not the greatest including the desktop stand which is pretty cheap and so small that it isn’t even that practical. The microphone itself, though, works fine and is worth it for the money if you aren’t looking to record at a very high level. I used it to record voice overs for a play and it worked just fine.

  15. Dickenson Says:

Nice solid feeling microphone, but would not appear as a sound input choice in 5 different Macintosh MacBook Pro (including unibodies) computers when plugged into USB port. Console error logs showed that the device could not be enumerated by the OSX USB family software. So, this mike is unusable under OSX.

It does show up on a HP Touchsmart, but for Mac users, this seems to be a problematic choice of microphone

  16. James Says:

    Giving this 5 *.
It is doing every thing asked of it for the price. Sure it isn’t a $500 Studio mic but it is the best sounding USB mic I have used so far. Love that it came with a Mic stand.

  17. Combs Says:

This mic is a great deal and good quality for the price. I am able to make clear recordings of acoustic guitar and vocals at the same time without picking up any empty static. I have absolutely no complaints.

  18. Faber Says:

all the people who had problems with ambient noise obviously didnt deselect the AG7 box in the settings for the mic, that GREATLY reduces sensitivity, if your looking for somethin useful and worth the money, buy this mic

  19. Graves Says:

The microphone works just fine. Very little distortion. Very loud. Mike placement is important. Clear and precise

It covers everything you need to know from the first step to the last.
It also gives you money saving tips on how to build rather than buy.
    My best investment yet!
