I like this product as it allows me to record vocals and instruments [keyboards and guitar] easily and in high quality using either my laptop or desktop computer. I am not new to computers but surprisingly I initially had a difficult time installing the Pro-Tools software and thereafter enabling it to work with Fast Track. But all is well now.

I appreciate Amazon for having this product swiftly delivered to me. I live here in the Philippines and I expected it to arrive in a week’s time but it reached me in just like three days from the time I placed my order.

What is the best hardware/equipment/software for recording Death Metal?
I am in a deathcore group and I’m interested in pursuing a career in audio recording. Needless Pro Audio Recording Equipment to say, we scream for vocals and use low-tuned 7 string guitars, and have crazy fast double-kick and snare on drums.I’m curious as to what professional studios use to record metal professionally. So I would like to hear from some pros out there, what would you recommend to buy, both equipment-wise and software-wise?

This is a great midi keyboard for anyone trying to get into digital music production, I like the sleek form factor and the keys and buttons feel great. The keyboard is plug and play, there is no need to install any additional drivers just plug it in and open Pro Tools or your Digital Audio Workstation of choice and you should be good to go. I was already using Pro Tools M-Powered Essential on a Vista 64 Bit system when I got this and it worked as advertised. Being able to play the virtual instruments included in Pro Tools with a keyboard has made the entire production process much easier and much more fun.

I like the Pro tools software and it runs smoothly on my system. I never feel like the software is holding me back, whatever I can think of, I feel I can create. With that being said, it is not the full version of pro tools. It is more like a lite version, designed to introduce you to the brand and eventually persuade you to upgrade. I would recommend this package to any aspiring digital musician, even if you decide you don’t like the software, the hardware can be used with almost any DAW and so the purchase still retains its value.

I will be brief- the M-AUDIO PRO TOOLS KEYSTUDIO seems to be a fine introduction to the world of desktop composing and recording. The keyboard itself is more than acceptable with a nice feel along with entry level appearance and performance. Translation- it looks, feels and is plastic. Sound depends, of course upon the gear actually producing and recording sound. This device is nothing more than a keyboard that does what a keyboard should- enter data. It does feature the wonderful plug and play inherant to most USB devices.

The heart of this package is the M-Audio software package. This is the interface that actually turns a computer into a multi-track audio center. Unfortuanatley, I have a Macintosh that is running on the latest version of “Snow Leopard” (vs 10.6.4) M-Audio, as the nice Indian man on the other side of the world told me, is not yet compatable with this OS system. On a more optimistic note, I am told that “they are working on it”.

In the meantime, I have my old standby, Apple Garage Band. This USB device works just fine with this program and was most impressive in it’s ability to create BIG sounding instruments.

I cannot yet comment on this product in detail as it will not work on an up-to-date Mac. As such, that one fact makes it pretty much a dissapointment. But for $100, even when limited to GARAGE BAND, this product will open your mind and expand your musical horizons well past the limitations of stand alone keyboard synthesisers. After all is said and done, I decided that this was a keeper.

What you see is not what you get! The last 3 pictures under the “See larger image and other views” are not what Amazon sends. These are pictures of the KeyStudio 49i a better M-Audio KeyStudio product with far more features than what is sent. My fault is with Amazon and giving the impression of sending the 49i. So until this false advertising is corrected the product gets a low rating.

  4. Albers Says:

i want to say that the keyboard is great, its the only thing that works with my pc ,however the dvd rom doesnt work with my pc so the midi interface wont work either. ive called m-audio(pro tool) and they said that i would have to return the product to amazon and get a refund. the only thing that i m really mad about is that the keyboard on the website is not the same one that you get. the keys on the picture is the better one . i feel that was wrong that amazon sold me a cheap model

These speakers will be a big step up from your typical powered speakers meant for use with computers (logitech, altec-lansing, etc). Dynamics and clarity are good, and the treble response brings a nice presence to music (although they’re somewhat unforgiving of harsh/bright sound mixes).

Rated down to 85hz (and that probably means -3db at 85hz), these fall more into the category of satellite speaker rather than bookshelf. The bass is weak enough that even the lower mid-range is affected somewhat, with male vocals sounding a bit thin. IMHO they’re inadequate for most music in a 2.0 setup.

I have a feeling these speakers can sound very good when paired with a subwoofer. M-Audio makes a subwoofer that would probably work well with them, but it costs more than three times as much as the AV-40’s, so the value proposition is questionable.

Since I was wanting something for music playback without a sub, I decided to return these.

  6. Fogg Says:

These speakers sound great right out of the box. For the money, it would be hard to find something that sounds as full and detailed. However, The speakers do have two flaws:

1 – minor issue – they are rather big for desktop speakers
2 – major issue – the amp buzzes on some sets. I am driven crazy by electrical hums and the set I ordered was sent back because of a buzz when the speakers weren’t playing. Apparently, this is a hit or miss issue with the AV 40’s. Caveat Emptor…

  7. Ewen Says:

If you are planning to record your own music and want it to sound somewhat decent, these are not the speakers for you! they are very hard to mix on… I make electronic music (hiphop, dubstep, breakbeats, even record some guitar and other instruments) and these were terrible for mixing my songs… they have a bell curve response… lows and hi are too quiet, mids are too loud… my music all came out w/ too much bass and treble and nothing in the middle

I have seen some good reviews on here… and maybe they are good reviews because the people who wrote those knew what to expect out of these monitors… but i’d hesitate to call them “monitors”… if you need speakers for listening to music or gaming then go for it, they sound good if it’s mastered audio…. these are awesome in that case, they put out lower bass response (lower not louder) than my brothers big stereo… but for mixing your music, they are crap…

I just think they are sold as a studio speaker and are not at all adequate, even for something cheap… I’d spend countless hours w/ these speakers trying to make my mixes clean… and as soon as i put it on anything else, it sounded like crap, but really good on those speakers…

if you are a music producer, or plan to do any recording or studio work or anything along those lines… be patient, save your money and get something better, otherwise you will just be wasting more money

  8. Carney Says:

It’s a great product! But… Loose magnet on the left spearker. Unfortunately. I don’t know what to do…

  9. McKinnon Says:

For the price, these are pretty amazing headphones. My husband owns some personally, which he uses for simple audio editing and listening to music at the house. Our church also owns a pair for the sound booth in the auditorium. Our church has a full band (drums, guitars, keyboards, vocals, etc.), and the headphones really help isolate the sound for the tech.

    - Comfortable (no headaches)
    - Structure is durable and hardy
    - Adjustable for different size heads
    - Good sound quality and dynamic range
    - Effective at blocking out external noise (okay, so they’re not Bose, but they’re pretty dang good!)

    ONLY CON
Wear and tear on the ear pads – the vinyl fabric covering the ear pads starts cracking and crumbling eventually (takes 2-3 years depending on how much you use them). The bonus is that you can purchase the replacement ear pads for just a few dollars from Full Compass online.

Obviously, you can get much better headphones by paying lots more money, which some people need to do because of their usage needs. However, for this price range, I haven’t found anything better. If they ever break, we’ll be replacing them with the identical pair – they are that good.

  10. Gillaspie Says:

I’ve had my hands on a lot of headsets, and this is by far one of the nicest I’ve put on my head. I like the closed-ear phones, and they are studio quality.

They’re EXTREMELY comfortable, and the sound range is fantastic! Picked them up on an Amazon special and boy, what a bargain!

If you want a set of phones with a clean, rich sound, you can’t go wrong with these. They have incredibly clear lows and crisp, clean highs.

I would buy another set of these without even thinking about it.

  11. Irving Says:

I’m not an audiophile, but I think these are pretty great headphones; certainly the best I’ve ever owned. The sound quality is great, and they are comfortable. I do wish there was a little more bass, but it’s still has a good bass response.
The 11 foot cord is a blessing and a curse depending on your application. When I’m at my computer, playing games, or listening to movies through them it’s really nice. But, when I’m walking with my mp3 player it’s a bit annoying.
I would recommend these to anyone who wants good quality sound without spending a small fortune.

  12. Nyczak Says:

These headphones are the real deal!! I am not a die hard musician but these sound great. I can also wear them all day. The sound they produce has made me question why i have only been using earbuds my whole life. Comfortable, great sound, good bass and treble — and i also wear them with no music playin as a sound muffler. I would def reccomend these if you are looking for a good pair of headphones that wont break the bank.

I use them at work on my desktop. If you were to use them as your normal everyday ipod/mp3 player headphones they would be great just bulky.

I love the long long cord as well!! It is a great set of music blaring headphones.!!

  13. Jain Says:

This microphone is great! I really like to sing, and I wanted to find a microphone that is good quality and that could plug into your computer/laptop. This microphone is good quality, but I wouldn’t say it is as good as a studio mic. It is really good quality for the price though. I definitely reccomend this product.

  14. Medlock Says:

I have found this Audio-Technica to perform under many circumstances and as well as I hoped.
I do not have much experience with condenser microphones, but have found its direct utility within the computer enviroment to work seamlessly!!!
I like the look and more about this condenser microphone! I think many others will too!!
    Recommend for Sure!!!!!

  15. Hughes Says:

The item is incredible. Wasn’t sure what to expect because I bought this to work with Window 7 speech recognition. And they recommend a head microphone. But this thing, even when I talk with a low voice picks it up and recognizes the things I want said. And I live the site, seems well build and easy to hold. Or if you want, comes with a nice tripod type cradle where you place on your desk in front of you.

    I highly recommend this.

  17. Fellows Says:

Is this thing supposed to play back thru an internal set of speakers….or do you HAVE to have headphones plugged in to hear your playback in the field????

Nothing I read anywhere comments on this issue…mine, I can’t hear the recording unless I remember to bring the headphones with me….

Somebody please confirm or deny this for me – thanks,

  18. Fleming Says:

The good: sound quality is really good as well as the number of recording formats. Since this is really the primary function – five stars for that.
The not so good: battery life is so-so, time from power-on to record is annoyingly long, the display is a bit anemic (tiny text with low contrast) — 2 1/2 stars for that.

  19. Murray Says:

I bought this to record lectures and I am so glad I chosed this over other brands. The results are superb, clear, and loud recordings. Even when I sit all the way in the back of the room I can still here what everyone is saying in the front of the room. Battery life is average but you can’t beat the quality for this price. Excellent quality and I will buy again from this brand any day. Buy this and you won’t regret it. It’s very easy to use, took me about 2 minutes to figure out how to use it. Light weight, portable, and does what it says.
