I bought the unit new and on my first night of live recording of 3 tracks with regular mics, it froze 3 times and each time all data got lost. This is not for professional use.

Is this enough for a basic home recording studio?
I have a digital 8 track recorder,a drum machine Digital Recording Studio a few guitars and a bass.I also have cakewalk home studio as an editing program, and i have a couple good quality microphones.Any musicians out therer that can tell me if this is a decent setup?

I bought this primarily to use to improve my bass playing skills. I practice along with music so now I can go back and listen to my track without the rest of the music. This helps me fix things that would otherwise go unnoticed. The DP-008 is very easy to use. I spent a little time with the instruction manual and everything was easy to understand. I like the knobs rather than searching through layers of menu pages. The internal mics do a nice job but I plug my bass through my SansAmp Bass Driver DI and into the guitar input on the back of the TASCAM. That gives me a lot of tone control and a clean recording. I may buy a drum machine and dig out my electric guitar now! I paid $235 for this and the power supply from Amazon. That is far less than the other online retailers charge. I use rechargeable AA batteries sometimes but the power supply is a must. Also, get at least a 4 GB SDHC card (8 GB is probably better) if you plan on using this very much. The TASCAM DP-008 is a must have for musicians no matter what you play.
