I’ve only had this a few days, but I’m already wondering why I didn’t buy this years ago! I needed a way to record semi-decent audio onto my newish laptop w. windows 7 as the onboard soundcard is basically worthless for recording actual music, and this is certainly doing the trick.Installing on 7 was a breeze once I found the right guide on the m-audio website and after an hour or two of fiddling, I was able to get workable levels. W. just my bass guitar and a shure sm-58 I recorded some acceptable sounds that I’m hoping to add more to. I’m using the open-source audacity software and not the bundled demo stuff, so I can’t speak to that.For the price, this is a great deal so far – providing it remains compatible. I see a lot people saying they couldn’t get it to work, but the drivers I got from the website seem fine. And it’s true – the headphone function is nice. How much RAM can I add to a Gateway m-6843 / processor upgrade?
I have recently moved away from my full-size recording studio and have started doing some mobile recording with the laptop I have, a Gateway M-6843. It has 2 slots for DDR2 SDRAM (currently has 2GB Mobile Recording Studio in one slot, 1 in the other). The computer is usually fast, but somehow doesn’t have enough power to run multiple VST instruments (the big guys, not small plug-ins) in ProTools 7.4. Gateway said the PC has a max RAM of 4GB, but I’m seeing ddr2sdram that are 4GB each on ebay, meaning that I could ideally switch up to 8GB. Is gateway right, or can I make the jump to 8? Also, can I put a faster processor in this machine? Right now I’m running an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5750. Please help, computer gurus!
