numark-hdx Essential hint about Pro Preamp Phantom

It’s preamps are quite a bit more silent than many ~300$ firewire interfaces’ micpreamps. I bought and returnt a Firebox, then a Audiofire4 because of that. Now using this connected to line input of a MBP for condenser mics. Much less noise!

I have an AKG C1000S mic, and a regular pc soundcard… what do i need to make my recordings sound good?
I’ve been looking around for something that’s not too expensive that i could buy to make my recordings sound descent. The mic CAN be powered by an internal 9 volt battery, but i’m pretty sure this is one of the reasons that it’s sounding like crap. It’s a condenser mic, and i think it would sound a lot better if it were Pro Preamp Phantom powered using phantom power. Considering my current financial situation (I’M BROKE, BIATCH! lol), I’ve narrowed it down to these choices: The Lexicon Omega Audio Interface, The M-Audio MobilePre USB Audio Interface, and The M-Audio Fast Track Pro audio Interface. And I just recently found out about the M-Audio Keystudio 49i keyboard, which can have a mic plugged in directly to it, but it doesn’t provide phantom power, so i was thinking that that combined with an M-Audio Audio Buddy Mic Preamp might work well together. I’m a very indecisive person, so I need a little help here from somebody that knows what they’re talking about… PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE SOMEBODY!I just found another possiblity… what about an ALESIS Multimix 8 USB 2.0 Mixer? That looks like it could be good, cuz it has more knobs to tweak than a regular audio interface.

The Zoom R16 seems like a pretty nice portable music recorder, and prety unbelievable for the price. It is the only truly portable recorder I could find (for any reasonable amount of money) that will record more than two simultaneous tracks from line-level inputs.

Which is why I bought it. Unfortunately, I found that it has one annoying “feature” that cannot be turned off. In addition to music recording, I wanted to use this thing for some multi-channel surveillance-type audio recording. I know this seems odd, but it would actually be great for that application, EXCEPT that the Zoom engineers decided, for no good reason, to artifically limit continuous recording time to 6 hours. This has nothing to do with the memory filling up, it is strictly a number they pulled out of their hats. This spec is found NOWHERE in the documentation. This is a real killer for my planned use.

So, 3 stars is all I can give it. I have not tried or even installed any of the software that cane with it, so I can’t comment on that.

wow. i am amazed. sounds good, easy to use, and for this price? built in chromatic tuner, metronome, effects galore, record them wet, or just monitor them dry.. slave another one and you have 32 tracks… simple, intuitive, makes me actually want to record again! thanks Samson! bravo! (i bought two)

I really love this machine. From a non-technical point of view and as a novice it really offers a lot of features and opportunities for someone to get started in recording at a very nominal price.

The unit I received however had a couple of problems. For example the wheel that controlled data changes was not working properly and when you decided to change a parameter it would not scroll evenly and often gave the opposite results, however the beauty of Amazon is that I simply had another sent within days and returned the broken unit at virtually no cost to me.

My largest complaint is that the manual is not that obvious in directions but the push & play simplicity of the machine make it fairly easy to figure things out on you own.

Would buy it again and in fact making plans to order another to sync together.

It came the day before a gig, I had no time to test it. My wife (not a tech person) took it to the FOH near the mixer and monitored the gain to prevent clipping. Recorded 1 and 1/2 hours using the built in Mics. Of course it picked up all the crowd chatter and applause a bit overwhelmingly, but recorded the show with absolute clarity.
I have just recieved word from Zoom that 64 bit drivers for windows 7 will be out early this year (2010) so I look forward to using it with my laptop.

I bought my Audio Buddy as a companion to my Korg M-1 1 bit recorder and Behringer C2 matched pair microphones. I wanted a complete field recording outfir that would fit in an attache case including the recorder, preamp, mics and cables and the Audio Buddy’d dmall size seems to be a perfect fit. Having balanced in and out jacks, makes it a perfect match for the Korg M-1.

I have done simple home recording for both singing and guitar. Over the years I have struggled to get recordings that weren’t full of static in the background. After I bought this sweet little device I haven’t had a problem with static. It’s great for the artist on a budget. For what it is, the M-Audio Audio Buddy was worth every penny. Some may be turned off by the lack of USB connections, but for those of us who have limited usb connection on our computers and only really need one mic input, it’s perfect. I however never paid more than 50 dollars for mine over a year ago. I would suggest buying yours locally, I did.

Absolutely what I expected after reading the reviews. No frills, but great low-noise pre-amp for home recording. Using this to home record with a Shure 57 mic with absolutely no problems. I agree w/ the previous reviewer that the knobs aren’t quite as discrete as you’d hope for, but for the price this pre really performs. I really appreciated the previous reviews as they pushed me over the edge on this particular unit.

…ok, not really. I still have to do that. BUT, it did mike my computer recordings from a quality mike WAY better. For the price, this is an amazingly high quality preamp with good features.
