My DJing needs were pretty minimal; I wanted to use PC software to mix outputs via an external source. The DJ I/O filled that need perfectly. This box is relatively inexpensive, it’s compact and I found it very easy to install and use with open source mixing software.

Which equipment to get for a beginner DJ? It’s for a gift and I’m a bit lost… >hi,my boyfriend’s birthday is coming up and i want to get him something really special. he’s been wanting to start getting back into being a dj, but hasn’t been able to get new equipment…so i thought that this would be a perfect surprise. the problem is, i’m pretty clueless about the equipment…and only know a little bit from our convos and from reading a bunch of yahoo answers (which i think has made me more confused -_-;). i hope someone can help me!!- EXPERIENCE: he’s dj’d before (a few years ago) and has stopped. he’s still got his vinyl turntables too so he has some experience.- HOBBY or SERIOUS: i don’t want to spend like over a grand on this bc even though he says he wants to become a pro dj, i think it might turn out to be more as a hobby..:T- PRICE Numark Dj Equip RANGE: i’m thinking < $800.- WHAT I'M THINKING: ok so i was thinking of getting a cdj package for him...like a combo cdplayer/mixer that also can play mp3s/ipod. but i'm not sure whether or not they are good...a lot of people on yahoo answers say don't get them. but reviews of those equipment on sites like pssl.com have said pretty good things about them. so i have no clue. and i'm mostly looking at numark equipment.QUESTION: my main question is, should i get a cdplayer/mixer combo for someone who has a bit of experience with vinyl turntables and wants to start again as a hobby possiblyyyy turning into serious (but in a few years later, not now)? if not, what are your recommendations (specifically, brand, name of equip, etc). it can be separate like 2 cd players and a mixer or something like that...but i don't think i'm looking for vinyl turntables (although i know the quality is way better).oh, and i also want to get a really nice pair of headphones too.are these any good?http://www.zzounds.com/item--NUMFUS494http://www.pssl.com/Numark-CD-MIX-3-Dual-CD-PlayerMixer-Combo-MP3if anyone can help me and give me recommendations, please do!!(sorry for the long read :|)THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!or what about these?http://www.platinum-records.com/Numark-KMX-02-Karaoke-station-prod7903.htmhttp://www.pssl.com/Numark-IDJ2-IPOD-Mixing-Console-WScratch-PitchDaniel K: he has experience with vinyl, but he's going to be mroe of a cd guy. he doesn't have any of his vinyl records anymore just his turntables. so most of his songs are in cd/mp3 format. the speakers (nice ones) and amp i don't think i need to get yet. for the mixers, won't he need cdplayers too? thanks for the recommendations so far though!

I’ve been DJ’ing for almost three years, two of which I’ve been using these headphones (same pair). I like this pair because they don’t go over the ear entirely, this way I can put them on and take them off easily. These headphones will reverse on one axis and don’t swivel around. In my experience the swivel becomes a nuisance and is an overrated feature. Overall, No complaints, no desire to upgrade.

    Pros

    - Price point allows you to buy an extra pair as your spare
    - Simple design (not cumbersome like most DJ headphones)
    - Convenient/Functional
    - Light
    - Durable
    - No Swivel (personal preference)
    - Does not go over ear (personal preference)

    Cons

    - Not comfortable enough to wear for leisure, but that may be because I have a large head.
    - 1/4 jack. If you want to use this with an iPod, you’ll need to purchase an adapter, which becomes awkward.

As a tip for aspiring DJ’s, if you insist on fancier headphones, focus on the functionality and not the sound quality. On the job, you will neither notice a difference nor care if there even is one.

To be honest, for the price, these aren’t a bad pair of headphones. they’re fairly comfortable, although a lack of adjustment means that they don’t quite sit on your ears properly.

The 6.3mm jack means that you’ll have buy an additional adaptor to make them fit your average MP3 player.

You might want to look at the Sennheiser HD202 headphones, which will be a far better choice. But a good effort.

This is not a review about the product( as i never recieved the ordered product to conduct one), but about the customer service and the delivery process Amazon has in place(or is there any ??). I ordered the Numark Total controller along with Numark DJ I/O from India and I wanted my friend who was travelling to the US to take delivery of the items to bring them back to me in india. My friend was traveling to Omaha and San Francisco spread over a total period of 2 weeks. I placed the order in the presumption that he would be able to recieve the items at Omaha. The Numark DJ I/o got shipped while the Numar Total Ctlr never got shipped. After making 2 calls with Amazon I was told that the shipment would be re-routed to San Francisco where my friend was planning to be based out of during his 2nd week. Also i was told by Amazon that since I had undergone all the trouble I would be offered a next business day shipping and the product would be shipped by 20 Apr 09, WHICH NEVER HAPPENED. All were plain lies. Again after speaking to 2 more representatives(1 rep even DUMPing my call when I requested to be transferred to a Supervisor), i was told that a refund would be processed and yet, no one was able to confirm where the package was. It was sad to note that there wasnt a single support associate who could understand my concern and do the needful. Finally the most surprising part was when the support associate plainly commented “UPTO YOU”, when I expressed my decision of refraining from further orders through Amazon.

Ok so this was a christmas gift that was bought for me and I thought it was going to be awesome. I seen this in action on youtube and some other sites and from what I seen on there it looked like this was gonna be loads of fun for not a terribly expensive price. Boy was I wrong. First and formost I will start with the software that it came with. Being that I dont use alot of djing programs I just decided to use the software that it came with labeled Traktor LE. Well after I installed it and tried to run it I found out that its just a demo and I have to spend additional money to purchase the full version software. But O well went along with it and tried the demo. Before even messing with the controller I tried playing 2 songs from i tunes. It loaded them up fine and all the knobs and effects worked but 1 big issue it doesnt even play the music? So then I tried with the controller plugged it in my usb port and compluter said found new hardware then said new hardware installed and ready to use but I looked down at it and no lights or anything were on then I switched the software in the midi option to the numark total control. It rebooted but same thing I was hitting all the buttons but no response like the controller wasnt even plugged in or something but when I unplugged it my computer made the sound when you unplug something like it was detecting it? Looked in the box and comes with no instructions whatsoever and their support for it is horrible I asked numerous people and no one seems to have an answer so this crap is going back. I will try something else biggest let down so far

I’M NOT A PRO, JUST DJ’ING FOR FUN, AND FOR FRIENDS’ PARTIES, BUT I FIND THIS CONTROLLER VERY GOOD FOR THE PRICE, I USE VDJ, AND THIS DEVICE MADE IT EASIER FOR ME TO DO MY THING, IT’S MISSING SOME FEATURES, BUT IT’S GOOD FOR THE PRICE.

  7. Noriega Says:

Yep, this is a fun product. Right price, for the right hardware. I’m not a pro, but I do like to mix music. The feeling of having a crowd pleased, dancing, and watching people bob their head at the tracks I play is a good feeling, in fact is a feeling like no other. I think DJs have the best job in the world. But like I said, I’m not a pro, so this is the closest I can get to the pro feeling, not too complicated, but not a toy. Software that comes with it is a bit lagging. I had to upgrade to the latest version of Traktor to get that pro feeling going, (oh yeah, it it was not easy to configure the MIDI to get to work correctly, eventually I got it done) and that’s the only reason why I won’t give it 5 stars. I think that it should come with more capable software for recording and mixing your tracks, ready out-of-the box.

Looks great too, I’ve taken this thing to a few parties, along with my laptop and I plug right into their sound system, it looks like a real DJ setup. It is heavy duty, sturdy, sound quality is great. This is actually an upgrade for me, I had the MK2 which was more of a toy that I quickly outgrew. This one is just right, price and quality are great.

  8. Lanera Says:

The Numark OmniControl is a fairly good piece of kit for beginning bedroom dj’s or anyone looking for a simple tool to do some basic mixes for a house party. Its of very solid build and has a good feel to all the moving parts. The built in sound cards actually perform quite well, and I’ve gotten great sound quality on everything I’ve hooked it up to. From surround sound systems to the hi-fi to a set of studio monitors. High volumes are a little iffy when hooked to my larger Cerwin Vega pa system, but its barely noticeable even then.
A great intro piece for an aspiring dj, or a cool little mixer to sit next to your desk/laptop. For a small party I can have everything I need to mix in just a messenger bag. My only complaint is that while it functions great with Traktor LE,(which it comes with) it has some mapping problems in Traktor pro. Effects dials and buttons don’t do what they are supposed to without some mapping. Its frustrating to not have my reverb come on when I hit the button to activate it. But all in all for the price, you can’t go wrong.
I would recommend this for starting djs to see if they actually like djing without investing 1k+ on pro level gear. To the mobile DJ that wants to supplement the gear already owned with a midi controller. Or to the bedroom or pro dj who wants a small functional midi controller that has great portability.
