I just recently purchased this keyboard with the Pro Tools M-Powered Essential software for my son who is wanting to expand his musical expertise but needed something that wasn’t too large and complicated but accomplished the ability to compose music. Plugging it directly in to my Mac and using it with GarageBand was a breeze. No installation of software necessary. However, trying to get the Pro Tools M-Powered Essential software to work on my son’s laptop with a 32 bit Windows Vista Home Edition was 4 hours of unnecessary time spent. When I launched the software it wouldn’t recognize the keyboard. I have over 18 years of working with and configuring non-linear edit systems on both Macs and PC’s and I still couldn’t get the software to recognize the keyboard. I have been planning on buying some recording equipment and was looking for some advice. I plan on recording tracks once at a time, maybe occasionally two tracks simultaneously. I also just bought a macbook pro and know I’m capable of using it for my recording. Is it Buy Pro Audio Equipment better to buy a cheaper set up, then a more expensive one in the future, or better to buy something mid-priced (I could spend up to $500 on a set up) and have it be able to last me for a few years?I also wasn’t sure whether a digital 8-track, a firewire or more expensive usb interface would be best.I would plan on recording vocals, guitar, piano, and other various instruments, and only for recreational purposes. I am not looking for *flawless* quality, but I would like to be geared towards finding something I could be content with in terms of quality.AND any suggestions on a condenser mic from $50-$200 would be greatly appreciated as well!
