Recording vocals via mixing console settings?
I recently purchased a yamaha mg102c to record vocals, I had previously used a tascam us122 and then went over to apogee (which was phenomenal for $500 but broke within 6 months) so now i’m onto a yamaha console based on previous usage experiences i’ve done my mixing via my recording software settings Yamaha Mixing Console mg24 14fx and not manually. so I need help in setting up high’s, mids and lows on this contraption but i’ve toyed with it for about a weak but can’t find a sound that fits properly. At times I feel i’m over compensating on the highs and mids then i change it and i’m over emphasizing on the mids and lows..the music we record is hip hop so settings ideal for that would be great.Also should I use compression when laying down vocals? I’ve tried recording raw with everything on zero except for gain and output level the first knob on the bottom and it just sounds horrible.I’ve got the mixer set up to record to monitor as well.I’m using garageband and yamaha mg102c.Any help is appreciated.
